Christmas Holidays

The last nights of training before Christmas are Mon 17th Dec and Wed 19th Dec. These tend to be a bit less arduous  than normal training nights, with more team games, some prizes, so make an effort to come along and bring along a friend and an active parent.

Training resumes on Mon 7th and Wed 9th January when we will be addressing some of the over-indulging that most of us do during the holidays.

New High Jump mats

For some time we’ve been concerned at the state of the “old” high jump mats which have been around longer than any of us can remember. These were originally obtained by Harmeny Athletic Club for use in Balerno High School, and have been talking to Balerno High School and their equipment supplier about getting replacements. After much discussion about size and prices we can confirm that this is now going ahead and new high Jump mats plus some other indoor equipment has now been ordered. The purchase of this has been largely funded through the Royal Bank of Scotland Community Cashback scheme (RBofS has awarded Harmeny £250 in each of the last seven years), and the Prize Draw fund (which is supported by parents of previous members).

We hope members will get their first chance to land on the new mats in early January.

Forth Valley League 2008

Harmeny is one of about a dozen local clubs who compete in the Forth Valley League, a Track and Field competition for juniors up to the age of 14. The fixtures are three Thursday evenings, usually one each in April, May and June, plus one Saturday fixture in Late July or early Aug (dates for next year haven’t been set yet).

After several years as our Team Manager David Gibson is standing down, so we will be looking for a couple of parents to take on and share this role. This involves assisting the coaches with selection, and the logistics of organising the team members into their events at each event.

We will be having a Parents / Coach meeting on the evening of Monday 21st January, 7:45 at Currie Rugby Club where we would like everyone who is interested in finding out a bit more to come along (even if not volunteering as team manager). But we’d particularly like any potential “Alex Fergusons” or “Frank Haddens” to come along. It can be hard work, but there is a real buzz when you see “your team” in action.

Membership Update

We’re chasing up membership fees for 2007/08 (our membership year runs from Oct 2007 – Sep 2008).

A list of those who have sent in their membership fees as for this year is attached. We allow a period of grace of a couple of weeks for new starts to see if it’s something they want to do regularly, but if continuing to attend we do require youngsters to join. The coaches have the right to refuse admission to non-members after the initial grace period.

Junior memberships received as at 3/12/07. If your name is on the list below, please ignore the attached membership form.

If your name is not on the list below, and you have been attending since before the beginning of December, then membership fees are now due. Please complete the attached form and return membership fees as soon as possible.
