Club Medal
Handicaps: During the summer we designate some local road or multi-terrain
races as handicap events. Club members are given 10k target times based on performances,
and the handicap winners are the male & female who perform best relative to their
target times. In 2008 these are:: Dunbar 10k, Edinburgh 10k, Edinburgh Marathon, Peebles
(Beltane) 10k, Sc Gas 5 & 10k races, Linlithgow 10k, Aviemore Half, and maybe a cross
country race. In August we have our own Pursuit
handicap with runners starting in reverse handicap order (ie slowest
first), aiming for a blanket finish. The course is off-road and predominantly
downhill or flat, following the Water of Leith walkway before joining the Forth
& Union Canal heading into town. There are M & F prizes in "high" and
"low" handicap categories (it's all relative, we just split the groups in half.)
Coffee & Cake runs to a coffee shop -
for the more leisurely ("chat while we jog") runners.
Monthly Bog &
Burn runs for those seeking the real off-road experience into the countryside or
the Pentland Hills.
Social trips: A weekend in
a pub / hotel, either in the UK or somewhere in Europe, with a run (suitable for
non-running bag-carriers).
Track Nights: With a few
folk doing track work, we organise a night of actual races on the track at Saughton. There
are some interesting challenges issued! |
