New Years Day Triathlon 1/1/05

While us Porty Runners had returned to warmth, a few even hardier souls were out braving the elements in the New Year’s Day triathlon.

Alex G was round in 1hr 30:53 (155 overall & 11th F. Senior), and would have been a few minutes quicker had her chain not come off the bike. Even more disappointing for Alex was hubby John was just a minute quicker (1hr 29:23), but his chain also came off.

Catherine (swim), Steph (cycle) and Janice (run) teamed up as the "Giggling Girlies" and got round in 1hr 30:03 for 144th position overall and first female team. Catherine had to leave the relative warmth of the pool to cheer on her team-mates struggling through the hail.

Long time club member, and man of many talents, Bill Stobie did a pb of 1hr 28m 28s. (124 overall)

Bob' s New Year Sprint exploits in the 90m Vet & 90m Open are reported at  www.newyearsprint.com A Trophy at last!

Saturday 15 Jan – Holyrood Park running festival

I’m aware of 2 folk who did the 5 k round Arthur’s seat:
David Gibson was 3rd Vet M in just over 21m

Alison Walker from the Sunday morning beginner group got round without stopping .… and came out the following day to run another 5k.  Next target, Britannic Women’s 10k).

 Forthcoming Races

 Edinburgh Hare & Hounds – Sunday 27th Feb, 11:00 – POSSIBLE  SOCIAL EVENT ????

These races are a 5mile & a 10mile and start at Kings Buildings Edinburgh – just turn up. The race is on SUNDAY 27th Feb at 11am. Entry is on the day so turn up in time to register. Registration is at KB House (a map should be available soon at www.eusu.ed.ac.uk/clubs/haries) and will cost £6 (£4 if Scottish Athletics affiliated).

Iain will be doing the 10 miler. If we get a lot of people doing these races rather, than the usual Sunday morning run, we could organise a wee social for afterwards. Can you please let Iain know if you are intending to do one of the races and also would you be interested in a wee family social? If there is sufficient interest  Iain would book a table so we could lunch/brunch, drink and be merry. It is always good if family attend as well so bring along partners, bairns and dugs. Please let Iain know in sufficient time (before 20th ).

Lasswade 10 miles – Sunday 6 March

From Iain “I have also asked for entry forms for the 10 mle race at Bonnyrigg which is being held on the 6th March, this is a great race over some interesting Country roads around Bonnyrigg, Roslin, Auchedinny, Loanstone, Rosslynn hospital and the final place Rosewell. I did this race previously and would recommend it to anyone.”

Beginners Group(s)

There are a few people asking about a beginners group. If there is enough interest we could start one or more jogscotland programmes. Alex may be setting up a mid-week group, I could do Sunday mornings. Pass the word around if you know anyone who wants to start at an easy level.
