Pentland Runners

A
bit of Admin
There have been a few problems with emails not getting
through to some folk recently (esp to Hotmail accounts), so Im using a different
mail account to send this out. If youre unsure about emails getting through, the
monthly updates go onto the website (www.pentlandrunners.org.uk)
, so its possible to keep up-to-date there.
Last
summer several folk who had been training hard (and some not-so-hard) came along for an
evening of track races (100m, 200m, 400m 800m and 1500m) to see if they had a potential
Olympic career behind them. This is open to everyone, adults and juniors. This is my only
chance to challenge all you real runners over my distance!
Come along to Saughton track for 6:30 (& bring some pins for numbers). Race order:
400m, 100m, 800m, 200m, 1500m. Sensible folk should do no more than three events
.
Our next 10k club handicap is the Scottish Gas 10k, and weve
also designated the accompanying 5k as a handicap race to gauge interest for the shorter
distance.
Were looking for a big turnout for our annual run
down the Water of Leith and along the canal path to
Bring some along friends to run, (Medals for all finishers)
Handicap trophies (for members only): M & F x
Low & High handicap groups
Ive trawled my files for performances by
club members over the last 10 years to compile the first list of best performances
in five year age bands over a range of distances. These are now on the website. Ive
almost certainly not got details of all members performances over the last 10 years,
so please check them out to see what Ive missed. You might also spot a few
opportunities to get into the best performers lists in some events.
Coaching
and jogleader courses
We always need committed and enthusiastic
coaches for the clubs juniors and jogleaders for the adults. The latest programme of
Scottish athletics courses is now published on the Scottish Athletics website or the
JogScotland website. I can also provide info. There will be a jogleader course at
Riccarton of Sep 22nd right on our doorsteps. The club pays the coaching
fees for anyone who will use the qualification to take groups.
Weve been handing order forms our recently, but if you havent got one, an
order form for jackets for fleeces is now downloadable from the website www.pentlandrunners.org.uk

Next Beginners programme?
Ive had a couple of queries about when were
starting our next beginners course. Theres nothing planned yet, but we would
like to feel for the likely numbers if we were to do another one starting in the Autumn.
So pass the word out and let us know of any likely candidates.

Conditions were kind for a change. On Saturday I ran 13.57s in the 100m for the silver
medal. That was enough for one day, so back to a relaxing afternoon in the garden hacking
out some tree roots.
Returning on the Sunday morning I discovered summer in Grangemouth. Someone said the 15
July would be summer as it lay between two weather systems (early summer rain and late
summer rain). There are more picturesque places to spend summer, but Im not
complaining as I won gold in the Shot Putt, coming from behind with a final round throw of
9m 17 (a pb). I also sort of won my age group in the discus, but with no others in my age
group, and not making the medal standard, it doesnt count (although it was a pb).
Its a few years (too many!) since the club has had a Scottish age group champion.
Theres certainly a few more who should try these Championships next year!

A
good one to do, and as trophy winners, honour is at stake.
As
an additional incentive, well make this a club medal event.
