Rigg Race Instructions
Registration is from 6:30pm at Malleny Park,
Balerno.
Please collect your race number from the
registration desk and fill in the medical information form on the back.
Baggage can be left at the registration
desk, however we strongly recommend that you do not leave any valuables as the race
organisers cannot accept responsibility for any lost items.
Toilets and changing facilities should be
clearly signposted and are available in Currie Rugby Club.
The race will start at 7:30pm sharp at Malleny
Park. Competitors will be walked to the start line. Would slower runners please start at
the rear to prevent a bottle-neck as runners make their way through the narrow entrance to
Malleny Park?
The route is an approximate 6 mile loop
around Balerno. Runners will exit Malleny Park then turn left onto Bavelaw Road which
turns into Mansfield Road. This 2 mile section is uphill. Once at the top of the hill,
runners turn right onto the Rigg Road, which is a mile long and relatively flat section.
The road is uneven and has pot-holes so please take care. At the half-way point, which is
at the end of the Rigg Road, there is a water station, after which runners turn right onto
Cockburnhill and head back downhill towards Balerno. At the next junction runners turn
left onto Johnsburn Road and make their way to the village roundabout after which runners
turn right back onto Bavelaw Road and then left into Malleny Park.
Marshals will be positioned at all junctions
to direct runners however the roads and pavements will remain open to the general public.
The finish line is situated in Malleny Park.
As you cross the finish line your time and position will be recorded. Please stay in the
same order to prevent confusion. Make your way through the funnel where you can collect
your race memento.
Prize-giving will be held in Currie Rugby
Club at 8:45pm. As well as being well supported by Currie Rugby Club, this year we are
again been sponsored by Run & Become who have generously donated a
collection of spot prizes, so please come along afterwards.
